I am not going to buy an Xbox 360 Elite. I believe that microsoft is greedy and and doesn’t care about their core fans for making the Elite. Millions, including myself camped out for the regular 360 back in 2005 and now we all have the inferior console. I feel like I got screwed. Microsoft or game store sshould offer some type of increased tade in value for a regular 360, to upgrade to Elite. Thanks for caring, Micro$oft!

I already have my 360, but I do not feel screwed over by Microsoft. I think people like Greg are taking this all the wrong way. The Elite is not here for current 360 owners to upgrade to like the DS Lite or GBA SP. Just look at the price. If Microsoft wanted to have the Elite as an upgrade, they would have marked the price down to at least $399.99 like the Nintendo upgrades often are. No, the reason the elite is here is for those who have yet to adopt the 360. Should you feel screwed over for not adopting the 360 later? Definitely not. You got to play Gears of War, Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Viva Pinata, and Oblivion before everyone else, and is there really anything you need in the elite? Sure, HDMI input is nice, but component has worked just fine for me on my neighbors television. Oh, and 120 GB of harddrvie? If you’re downloading that much content, I think you have a problem, but that’s just me. In short, don’t feel screwed over by Microsoft, they just want to give later adopters more options, and frankly, those options are just not necessary or worth the money.

What we see here is Microsoft pulling the rug out from under the PS3. Presently, PS3 is the superior gaming system. That said, the price tag and lack of good titles is has given the XBOX an opportunity to strike the killing blow. Offering the ELITE is going to satisfy those gamers who, like myself, want the best tech but don’t want to sell a kidney so we can afford it.
Now it seems you can have the best of both worlds. A complete 1080i HD gaming experience, great online apps and a price tag that, while still tough to swallow is far better than 600$.
Also, you have to remember that the next frontier in living room tech is a central device that ties all your media together. Microsoft has tried (and failed) at this for years with Windows and PCs making lousy attempts to centralize your media experience. Now that the APPLE TV is stepping in and will begin kicking some serious ass. Microsoft obviously sees this coming and knows that the future is in a multi-functional media platform So they are building this functionality into the new platform. It’s called planning ahead, hence the larger hard drive (HD movies downloaded online) and the HDMI output.
Really, when you get down to it, the whole Blu-Ray / HD-DVD battle might just evaporate in the next 3 years if online distribution of HD content becomes viable, which I think will happen. If you ask me, within the next 5 years we will see happening to movies and games what happened to the music industry, where the ease of just shopping and buying online, downloading to a hard drive and streaming your content throughout your home becomes more commonplace than going to the mall to pick up a DVD or game. Just give it some time.

I would get an Xbox 360 Elite, but, I already have an Xbox 360. It depends on how long the Elite version is on sale or if the new Xbox Premium will drop in price, and include HDMI. For now, I may consider buying a new hard drive for my premium unit, but, that’s about it.
However, I do agree with Greg, the first commenter in this topic, where, the Elite should have a trade-in of older ‘360s to allow current gamers to get the “upgrade.” Triforceowner has some good points too, not sucking up, but, they are right in their own defenses.
My opinion is, if I was an executive at Microsoft, I would have considered including an HD-DVD drive in the Elite, and possibly, they could have waited a bit longer to release the consoles (currently core and premium) with added features such as the High Definition Multimedia Interface and HD DVD drive, even though the left outs (and now “upgrades”) are a minus, there is a plus to it too, the system is cheaper, thus, a lot more accessible to those who want power in their console.

I totally agree with Clint… but also with Greg. I already have the 360 for a long time, I was going to get the PS3 but the price tag was just too hard for me to swallow. I am P.O.’d at micro$oft for putting the elite out now, but now is better than later I guess. I just hope that the elite has the new 65nm chip rather than the old one. That there my friends is where it all the “sushi” is at. I know that when I get it, I will check for the 65nm chip, if it is not there… I will just return it to circuit city. No harm no foul.
I am getting it pre ordered through circuit city. I recommend you all to do the same. I don’t mind having two 360’s at home for a while. My wife probably will, but I won’t. If anything you can always sell or trade your 360 to eb games or game stop for 190.00 (if you have the premium). That is a whole lotta games and other stuff for the 360.

One more thing… They did not include the HD DVD Drive due to the fact that blu-ray is out selling it 2 to 1…
