Red Steel was supposed to be the Wii’s big mature title for the launch. Ubisoft went to Nintendo, signed up for the project, and did not deliver. The failure of Red Steel will create a time period in which we will not see many mature titles for the Wii. I feel that only after Sadness we will see good mature Wii titles, but even then it may be to late for the console. Parallels can already be drawn between the Cube and Wii: a strong launch, promised gaming glories, and quick delays (see Reggie’s latest MTV interview). Mature titles moving away from Nintendo could easily come next.

Afraid that nintendo will lack mature titles, no not afraid; but if they hold to their standards from the past, then yes. I am and always will be a fan of nintendo because of the fun I had growing up, but when the Playstation come out, I was looking for something more mature and that was the target audience for the Playstation. Nintendo has had a track history for family entertainment and I believe with the Wii, they have capured the essence of family oriented gaming. I have a Wii for my nine year old kid and a PS3 for myself, and I hope that nintendo keeps with their tradition.

No, Manhunt 2, if nintendo releses manhunt 2 i cant see them denying any game because of its rating. although it will be up to publishers to supply the M rated content.

The console is lacking mature titles right now. 14 voters said that the Wii won’t lack mature titles, I’m not sure what makes them think that. Red Steel as someone mentions is not a good game. The average score from 20 odd gaming sites gives it 6.2. One site gave it above the 8 score giving it 8.0. UK official mag gave it 91% but they would do that to promote the game. The game wasn’t that mature anyway. It received a 16+ in the UK but any game with guns and shooting doesn’t ever get below 16+ Its called Red steel meaning blood on the sword but there is no blood in the game. We all know if Ubi made this for 360, xbox, PS2 and PS3, teh game most most likely have blood in it. Thw Wii is touted as a family oriented console for a few laughs and fun. The majority of owners will be younger teens and kids and the parents who also play it are not going to buy mature games for their kids and wouldn’t do for them selves as their not in touch to what games are available. There are questions floating about the forums for the reasoning behind Rockstar’s decision to also have Manhunt 2 on the Wii.
Resident Evil 4 on the Cube wasn’t a success story in terms of sales. When the PS2 version came out, (was it 8 months later I’m not sure? but it was some time late) It took 3 month for sales of the PS2 version to surpass the total sales of the Cube version that had already been out for moves. Not forgetting that many people bought a Cube just for that game. So how many original cube owners bought Resi 4? They’ll be so much less bying Manhunt 2 for Wii.
I also think that the Wii will lack immersive games and certainly realistic games. The Wii has an immersive game in the name of Zelda, thats a game you can get an adventure from and gets you so into the game that 5 hours just fly by and you don’t release the things that happen around you. How many games like that will the Wii see? I don’t think there’s one coming out this year, unless Metroid is coming this year but even that wouldn’t rank in the top ten of FPS for this year if that was on the 360. When I play hardcore games I get on my 5.1 DTS headphones, light are out and I’m in the game for hours. There are no games like that on the Wii. I like my realistic sport games and racing games. I like the realism in action shooter games like the Tom Clancy franchise. None of this will be on the Wii.
I’m looking at all the genres you can think of and the only genre that the Wii has best is the puzzle genres. The biggest games of the genres are on other consoles. Like the biggest RGP belong on Playstaiton. The 2 biggest racing sims are GT and Forza. Nintendo has never had one. The best football (soccer) franchise, Pro Soccer is Playstation (doesn’t work on 360 fro me) Best best-em-up franchise, Virtua fighter and Tekken on Plystation. 360 and PS3 will have the biggest FPS and 3rdPS. I can go on but for the Wii you’ll get mainly a overwhelming of the same genre, Family orientated games and weird Japanese games. Some of them are good but I couldn’t stick to one genre, I’ll get cravings to play different type of games.
